PLANT CITY — A 17-year-old Plant City girl has been charged with driving under the influence-manslaughter in the Feb. 2 death of a man who was delivering The Tampa Tribune.

Jennifer Carvajal hit 52-year-old Keith A. Davis’ car on Alexander Street at Interstate 4, Plant City police say. Carvajal was headed north on Alexander, ran a red light and hit Davis, who was exiting the interstate, police Sgt. Al Van Duyne said.

Davis, a Plant City resident, died about 90 minutes after the 6:30 a.m. accident at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Van Duyne said. Carvajal was treated at St. Joseph’s Hospital, he said.

A warrant was issued in June following an investigation, but police were having trouble tracking her down because she had moved, Van Duyne said.

She was arrested Thursday at her school, Simmons Career Center, he said.

Carvajal also was charged with having no valid driver’s license, police said. She was being held Friday at Hillsborough County jail with bail set at $25,000.
